REI Adventures offers trips ranging from single-day outings to 14-day expeditions. As the first UX intern on a cross-functional team of 10—including UX/UI designers, a copy editor, developers, a principal designer, and project managers—I had the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to both web and print experiences that support these trips.
My primary focus was on the Online Traveler Portal (OTP)—the post-registration experience for trip participants. This included everything from gear lists and itineraries to payment systems and legal documentation. Partnering with a Senior Designer, I helped lead a full redesign of the OTP across both desktop and mobile platforms, working in close collaboration with program managers, stakeholders, directors, developers, and external partners.
Our work was grounded in user research, iterative design, and thoughtful UX strategy, ensuring the onboarding process was seamless, intuitive, and aligned with both customer needs and business goals.
Additional responsibilities included trip experience curation, prototyping and usability testing, internal presentations, and contributing to intern-led initiatives and volunteer efforts.
